07 Aug U COUNT August 2013 Prayer Notes
Praise and Prayer: Project Rescue Kolkata, Project Rescue New Delhi, Domestic, Uganda
Project Rescue Kolkata
There are now 20-22 girls at the Home of Hope!
Several women who want to leave prostitution have been identified and will hopefully be moving to the HOH within the next few weeks.
The Kolkata AG church had a special evening service in April to help spread awareness of sex slavery and what is being done to help victims in Kolkata, and to work toward ending the trafficking of children and women. A meeting followed in which several new volunteers received more information and training!
The children at the Evening Care Center are doing well with their studies. Four students passed Board exams with flying colors and 2 students sat for the engineering entrance exam and one was accepted!
The Vocational Unit now has a tailoring course the women can take and earn a certificate upon completion of the course and passing an exam!
Pray for chief caregiver at the HOH, “Ann”, who is expecting her first baby in Oct., and for her two support staff. They need more help.
Pray that God would make a way for the women who want to leave the life of prostitution and that they would find refuge and healing at the HOH.
Pray for the recruitment and training of more staff from within the local church. Pray for outrage against injustice among believers and that the church would rise up and take its place to stop the exploitation of women and children in India.
They are still seeking a place near the RLD for the Evening Care Center and Vocational Unit. There are currently 21 women at the VU, but 14 have left, either because they got married or because the temporary location is too far to travel. Pray for safety for those that have left and that they would continue to seek the Lord and stay connected with other Christian believers.
Deepika now has 3 outreach workers who go into the RLD daily. Pray for their safety and for God’s favor, and for relationships to be built as they reach out to those in need.
Project Rescue New Delhi
Several new volunteers from the local AG church have been helping out at PR New Delhi. They are very grateful for these volunteers!
Girls and boys from the homes are preparing for first quarter exams. Please pray for them to learn the material and to pass their exams.
They had two strong leads on another staff for the Boys Home, but it seems as though things hit a wall. Pray that God will pave the way for an additional staff person for the Boys Home, and that He will provide strength for “J” until he has help with the boys.
Please also pray for “Adam”, one of the first boys that came to PR Delhi. Several months ago his mother removed him and took him to another home, but now has asked PR to take him back. His mother came back several weeks ago asking Boys Home to take him back. Please pray that God will work in her heart as she receives counseling to make the best decisions for her son’s future, and that Adam will be able to return the boys home by August.
Continue to pray for a full-time director.
Last month, in the FBI’s Operation Cross Country, 105 trafficked children were rescued over a 3-day period in 76 US cities. 159 pimps were arrested.
For all the victims who were rescued!
Pray for faith-based homes where healing can occur. Partnerships continue to develop between U COUNT Campaign and other anti-trafficking organizations, and state and local agencies, including law enforcement agencies. While we celebrate and thank God for the advances in bringing awareness, recognizing victims, identifying potential trafficking situations, and taking action to put a stop to the commercial sex slave trade in our communities, we are acutely aware of a shortage of crisis housing for victims of all ages, including adult victims. Pray that God would use His people to fill this need, by opening doors and providing direction and resources to establish homes that would offer safety and help for newly rescued women and children.
Sarah’s home is now open and has taken in at least two girls! We praise God for all who have helped as this home has gone from dream to reality. The director reports that amidst the challenges of learning how to be family to these girls, the sound of teenage giggles and laughter is uplifting as it fills the walls of this home.
There is a need for volunteers to be proctors in the schoolroom during the day. The girls are students in an online school and they study at Sarah’s Home. They would like to have volunteers with teaching experience, or other qualified volunteers, to keep the girls on task and help them find the answers to any questions they might have.
They are still in need of mentors that can come to Sarah’s Home either weekly or every other week. Mentors build relationships with the girls and also fill in at the home so that the House Moms can have some time off.
Pray for the staff at Sarah’s Home. Pray for Godly friends and support for them in the community. Please pray for strength and wisdom as they build relationships with the girls. Pray that they would have God’s revelation and words of knowledge and comfort for the girls.
Pray that the girls would be ready for change and desire healing. Pray that confusion would be gone and they would start to realize the unhealthiness of their “relationships” and that they would realize that they’ve been victims and start the process of healing.
Pray for their Salvation!
Amy’s House is planning to open in Larimer County in a few weeks! They have resolved issues with property boundary lines and are looking forward to providing much needed care for trafficking victims in early September!
Amy’s House will be hiring 4-5 additional staff in the coming weeks. Pray for God’s leading in the interviewing and hiring of staff, and in the training process. Pray for the girls who will come to live at Amy’s House and that they will find healing through relationship with Christ and the care of the staff.
Sarah has connected with a mentor who shares her heart for fighting the trafficking of children in Uganda. She is seeking God’s direction in involvement in this area and praying for connections with others who can help. Please pray that God would direct their steps and connect these two with others who have the same passion and provide the resources to bring change in Uganda for all of the children in the streets and in refugee camps. We know how beautifully God orchestrates connections, and anticipate the great things He will accomplish because Sarah said “yes” to His calling!
Please pray for the Sheppard Centre boys and the director, Patrick. Pray for funding and sponsorship for the boys.
